Faculty Retention Advocates

Faculty Retention Advocates

The overall objective of the Faculty Retention Advocates program is to work towards institutional change and enhance the hiring, onboarding, and retention of a diverse group of faculty. The college Faculty Retention Advocates are dedicated to strengthening community and enhancing belonging in their fields and at the University. The specific theme or tasks may evolve from year to year. Currently, the team is focused on assessing the experience/needs of early career faculty (specifically the RTP process) and making recommendations to the Office of DEIB.

Goals for the 2024-25 academic year:
-assess the experience and needs of early career faculty
-the process through retention, promotion, and tenure
-review ARTP documents and guidelines
-support a campaign that will encourage academic departments to review and update guidelines to include examples of what could be included in evaluation files.

Serving as Equity Coordinator for the College of Business and Economics is a privilege. I love the diversity of the students, faculty, and staff of CalState LA, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help create and maintain an inclusive and welcoming environment on our campus. I have a heart for those who might feel alone or have a hard time adjusting to University life. I also enjoy the opportunity to work with so many first-generation students. I find that our students are happy to be here, eager to learn, and hard-working. I was also a first-generation student and I can relate to many of the experiences our students face. I enjoy connecting with members of our campus community; please feel free to reach out to me.

I enjoy spending time with my two adult daughters and their families and with my adopted son from Nigeria.

As the co-Equity Coordinator for the Xu College of Health and Human Services, my goal is to work collaboratively to help the college continue to build a more equitable community among faculty, staff, and students. I hope to foster a supportive environment with and for our faculty, especially faculty of color from historically marginalized backgrounds, to develop a strong sense of belonging as scholars on campus.

My spare time is often spent with my two young children, exploring the outdoors and attending various community events.
